Reclaiming the street to make it a playground for children and meeting for parents
Playing Out takes its roots, in 2008, in discussions between parents from South Bristol. Frustrated at how little freedom their children had to play in the street because of traffic, they sought a solution. Alice Ferguson and Amy Rose had an idea. They knew that you could ask to have a street party. Why not use this procedure to close the street to traffic one day after school, giving space to children? It was the beginning of an adventure that is now a national movement.
